ultimo

Ultimo in a Latin date means in the previous month, so die XXI ultimo is the twenty-first of last month.

Ultimo is a form of ultimus, last. In a date it stands for the last month before the one in which the entry was written. The BYU list of common phrases translates Die XXI ultimo as on the twenty-first day of the previous month.

Work out the month from the date of the entry itself. A burial dated 2 March with death die XXVIII ultimo means the person died on 28 February.

As seen in a recordLatin burial register, Bavaria, 1790s
Sepultus die 3 Martii, obiit die 27 ultimo
