puella

Puella is Latin for girl, used in baptism and burial entries for a young girl.

Puella means a girl or young woman. Burial registers use it for a girl who died young; the boy's word is puer.

When a register says only puella with no name, the child may have died at or soon after birth. Look for a matching baptism a few days earlier.
